After experiencing what felt like a “skipped-over” summer and an already long winter, I would bet that many Clinton residents are growing excited for all that spring has to offer.
That means fresh blooms, green grass, sunshine, and of course an opportunity to get back out in the garden. What better way to prepare for the planting season ahead than by attending the Seedy Sunday event?
Seedy Sunday is an annual event organized by the members of the Clinton Communities in Bloom Committee, and gives local gardeners a chance to get a head-start on the growing season. This year, Seedy Sunday is scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clinton Memorial Hall.
In past years, the event has included plenty of interesting tables with detailed information on topics like invasive species and bees. Visitors can also expect to find seed and plant vendors, as well as a seed exchange, concession table, and more. Seedy Sunday has seen a small dip in attendance in past years, but hopes to draw out more locals this year to help ring in a successful spring. Clinton CiB participating in 2018 program
After taking a few years off, the Village of Clinton will once again be participating in the 2018 B.C. Communities in Bloom program. During this time, the Village will be evaluated for the ways in which it has endeavoured to “grow together.”
Through the program, participating communities strive to stimulate civic pride, encourage tidiness, and work on environmental initiatives in their area. The award program hopes to provide a framework for municipal participants to “reinvigorate and enhance their community’s livability”.
In addition to Seedy Sunday, the CiB committee will be promoting other events throughout the year, such as the Funky Flowerpot Contest, a Community Clean-Up, Community Evaluation, hosting of the Provincial Communities in Bloom Conference, the Fall Craft Sale, and more. Stay tuned for more information on these events as the year progresses.

Updates from the Parent Advisory Council
The Parent Advisory Council—better known as the PAC—is a collective of parents who work to fundraise for David Stoddart School students, while also offering a voice for any parent/student concerns. This year, the PAC needs more parents to come out and support their group, as many of the current members will soon be graduating from their roles.
If you value the education of your children and have ever wanted to know more about what goes on at school—for example, what students are learning, and what special events they participate in—then you may be interested in signing up as a member of the PAC.
Over the years, the local PAC has helped to raise money for new playground equipment, a 3D copier, new racquet carts for the gym, a climbing event in Kamloops, the 30-Hour Famine breakfast, a Playhouse project, box-office tickets to the Sagebrush Theatre, a Barkerville trip, anti-bullying lanyards and much more.
Through its elected officers, the PAC can advise the Board of Trustees of School District No. 74, and can also provide opportunities to educate and inform parents about what goes on in the school. All parents and guardians of registered students can become a PAC member, and members of the PAC wish to remind all parents of David Stoddart School students of the strong evidence tying parent/school involvement to student success rates.
The next PAC meeting will take place on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the DSS library. There will be appetizers served at the meeting, and there will also be a special prize draw for new members who attend. Babysitters can be provided upon request, so please call the school at 250-459-2219 if this is a service you would like to take advantage of in order to attend the meeting.
