Vendors galore litter the lawns of Loon Bay Resort for the weekly Saturday markets.

Even the Highway 24/Interlakes Lions Club had a concession on the July holiday weekend. Almost anything you can dream up is available, including baked goods, handicrafts, pottery, glassware and woodworks.

Lone Butte's Susan Saver is particularly popular with her Garden Decor, which she tells me is hyper tufa, a lightweight concrete material, and it has garnered much attention.

Vendors requiring an $11 space should call Joan Rezansoff at 250-593-2353.

IVFD fundraisers

Interlakes Volunteer Fire Department's (IVFD) huge July 2 garage sale was well supported and members thank the public for their generosity.

In all, $1,400 was raised for the department.

IVFD's annual golf tournament will be held at the Middleton residence in Bridge Lake across from the school on Sept.10. It is open to anyone who wishes to play. The entry fee is $5 and tee-off time is 1 p.m.

The event will conclude with a potluck supper. Anyone who wishes to help with the supper is asked to call Heidi Middleton at 250-593-4032.

Photographer featured

Bridge Lake librarian Brenda Tillyer welcomes photographer Monika (Lindner) Paterson to the library's Community Showcase for August.

Monika's family emigrated from Germany when she was a child, and she has lived in the South Cariboo for more than 30 years.

Says Monika: "I photograph a lot of different things, including nature if it crosses my path, and especially event photography."

Her enjoyment of photography started when she was five years old and was given a 110 Instamatic camera.

"I just enjoyed it and people commented that I took too many photos. I graduated from there. I did the photography for my graduation yearbook at Peter Skene Ogden.

"I've done the Relay for Life for 11 years, since it started in 100 Mile, and I'm the official photographer for the South Cariboo Idols."

A newer offshoot is virtual photography tours, whereby Monika provides 360-degree photos of buildings and/or landscapes. While the market is slimmer in this area, it is slowly building up, she adds.

Birthday bubbly goes to Lorraine Jerema and Bob Pernoski, and Destiny Schroeder got 10 big balloons on July 3.

Congratulations on Catherine and Peter Cooks' 24th wedding anniversary, and Alaina and Mike Jones' third.

Congratulations also go to Alicia Williamson for doing well at the July 9 Watch Lake/Green Lake Gymkhana.
