Raising the roof for Canada Day

Canada Day 108 Historical Site

The museum at the 108 Heritage Site is in desperate need of a new roof, says 100 Mile House & District Historical Society member Mary Anne Rutledge, and running the concession stands will be one way to raise funds for the project.

There will be information signs at the Canada Day celebrations along with donation cans. Rutledge acknowledges the community is very supportive of various events and is grateful for any support.

"We need $40,000, and so far we have a total of $15,000 from grants given by the [Cariboo Regional District] and the Heritage Legacy and our contribution of $1,000."

The roof is one thing, but this is about the Canada Day celebrations and it’s for the children and families, says Rutledge.

"We have a great kids zone, with a huge petting zoo by the Lone Butte 4-H Club, games, story time and a huge air ride and bounce."

The festivities go from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., starting with Can-Can Dancers accompanying the RCMP Colour Guard as they bring in the Canadian Flag.

There will be various performances throughout the day, arts and crafts to browse and buy, emergency vehicle displays, and everyone is invited to share the birthday cake starting at 12:50 p.m.

Rutledge says this will be the last year she organizes the event. "It’s time for someone else to pick up the flag and carry it."
