Quilt show with recycling theme

Interlakes event features beauty, basics of the hobby

Waste Not, Want Not – that's the recycling theme for an upcoming quilt show at the Interlakes Community Centre.

Log Cabin Quilters show committee co-chair Gyl Connaty says the two-day show offers a chance to see beautiful handmade quilts from recently-made to antique, and more.

Some quilts will be on display for the sheer enjoyment of admiring their artistry, and others will be available for purchase.

There will be a Merchant's Mall (supplier booths) for quilters, a Tea Room for lunch and refreshments, a quilt raffle and door prizes.

"We have four quilt stores coming and they sell their patterns, fabrics, tools and whatever."

It takes place July 11 (10 a.m.-4 p.m.) and July 12 (10 a.m.-3 p.m.) and the admission is $5.

Connaty says the show offers a social event for everyone.

Those with an interest in learning more about quilting or joining the club are especially encouraged to bring their questions and turn up for the show.

It is the club's 30th anniversary, and it holds these shows only once every five years, she notes.

"Come out and have an enjoyable day and admire the beautiful work our members have done."

Connaty says people don't need to be expert at sewing to make a gorgeous quilt, and the club often hosts lessons, speakers and material exchanges.

It is a relaxing and enjoyable hobby, the club offers good social interaction, and it takes recycling to a different level when you take an old castaway dress and use it to craft a lovely new quilt, she notes.

The Interlakes Community Centre hall is located at 7592 Highway 24.
