On Monday, June 17 members of Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School's Gay Straight Alliance took part in a Pride Walk down Highway 97.

The GSA was joined by Saturn Zezza, chairperson of the 100 Mile House Pride Society, and principal Caitlin Currie. Nicole Jackson, the GSA's staff sponsor, said that Pride Walks and Parades in June are meant to commemorate the Stonewall Riot of 1969, a pivotal moment in LGBTQ+ rights history.

"Participants in the Pride Walk display solidarity and acceptance through vibrant displays of rainbow colours and symbolic attire," Jackson said. "Beyond celebration, the event raises awareness, challenges discrimination, and promotes inclusivity for all sexual orientations and gender identities."

Jackson said that she was proud of PSO's GAS for organizing a small yet powerful Pride Walk to celebrate Pride. She noted they were heartened to receive strong support from passing community members, including cars honking in solidarity as they passed them.

While June is traditionally Pride Month, the 100 Mile House Pride Society does not hold its official celebrations until July 26 and 27.
