Plan to partake in a bit of pampering on Oct. 1 by dropping in on An Afternoon of Glitz & Glamour show, presented by the Mill Site Lodge/Fischer Place Auxiliary (MSL/FP).
It takes place at the 100 Mile Community Hall from 1 to 5 p.m. with a fashion show, all kinds of self-indulgent items for sale, wine and cheese, entertainment, door prizes, and a raffle for more items to spoil yourself with.
The event promises to be a lot of fun, but it's also an important fundraiser for the auxiliary, which has the proceeds earmarked for purchasing needed equipment, comfort items and special projects for the residents of MSL/FP.
People will be able to pick through the products of close to 20 vendors with everything from jewelry, clothing, winemaking supplies and makeup to antiques, locally authored books, spa information and garden centre goods.
From 2:30-3:30 p.m., there will be a fashion show, with clothing and accessories from Didi's, Class Act Formals and Outlaw.
There's also a performances by can-can dancers, guitar and vocals as well as musical entertainment by local performers Nice n Easy.
A bucket raffle will feature prizes, such as a hotel stay, gift baskets, a facial and a variety of gift certificates, and because the theme of the show is Gold Rush, a special door prize will be given away to someone who comes dressed in period clothing.
Auxiliary event co-ordinator Kelly Pollock says funds raised at the event will benefit many people.
"This goes beyond immediate residents. We're all getting older."
Glitz & Glamour shows generally raise close to $2,000, Pollock says, adding last year's total revenue was $3,837.
Some $8,800 was spent on comfort items, which included a Bose music system, a computer setup with Internet and Skype, so residents can talk with families at no charge, a piano, and fold-down tables for the Mill Site activity centre.
Pollock adds Glitz & Glamour support from local businesses has been fantastic, and that will translate into a great event.
Tickets are available until Sept. 29 for $10 at Donex, Didi's, The Hair Flair and Country Peddlar. They will also be available at the door for $15
