The Horse Lake Community Farm Co-op is holding its annual Family Farm Day on Aug. 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The tour and activities are free, and the organizers want to focus on the children having a good time.
"We will have farm animals for the kids to see," says Co-op director Rob Diether, who also belongs to the Community Enhancement and Economic Development Society (C.E.E.D.S.).
"The nature walk starts at 1:30 p.m., and there is a garden tour, too."
The co-op, he adds, is a group of farmers and concerned citizens who have purchased shares in the agricultural co-op, operating on 133 acres of heritage farm property, also known as the Betty Place.
The land is currently farmed by C.E.E.D.S., which has more than 30 years of experience in co-operative agriculture.
Depending on the weather, Diether suggests people bring sun hats and sunscreen or rain hats and boots.
"Keith Jackson of Retro Dog Concession will be here for people to purchase a hotdog, and we'll have produce for sale as well."
For the remainder of the summer, C.E.E.D.S. invites people to come out to the Betty Place Farm for Sunday weeding from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If people can help a little or a lot, Diether says it's always appreciated. Bring your own gloves, kneeling pads, lunch and favourite tools, he adds.
Located at 6298 Doman Rd., the co-op is 24 kilometres east on Horse Lake Road and one km left on Doman. For more information, call 250-395-4042.
