Cheryl Gauthier sold her art pieces at the Rolf Zeis Memorial Arena community market fundraiser on May 14. Funds raised from table rentals are being put towards maintenance operational costs for the arena. The market runs every Saturday until September at the Lac la Hache Community Hall.

The Lac la Hache Community Club (LLHCC) is hosting a weekly community market at the Lac la Hache Community Hall in order to raise funds to reopen the Rolf Zeis Memorial Arena this fall.

Due to power consumption issues, as well as various maintenance concerns including a leaking compressor, the arena closed in early February.

There just wasn't enough funds to keep the arena running, says community member Jeanette McCrea.

The cost for the power varied between $3,000 and $5,000 a month.”

To try to ensure the longevity of the arena, LLHCC members McCrea and Wendy Williams will be hosting a community market every Saturday at the hall until September in hopes of keeping the arena open.

Tables can be rented for $10 and there will be a lunch for $5.

We've had some interesting ones come in so far,” McCrea says about the people who have rented tables for the fundraiser.

Cheryl Gauthier from Lac la Hache was selling her art work at the market on May 14. She had a variety of paintings on sale including canvas, plate and watercolour.

It's for a good cause.

[The arena] needs a lot of repairs. We are hoping for it to stay open.”

There is also room for vendors outside the hall. To rent a table, contact Wendy Williams at 250-706-9937.
