This year’s Lone Butte Historical Association executive includes back row: directors Mary Carter

The Lone Butte Historical Association (LBHA) executive thanks Heather Nelson for, once again, conducting the annual general meeting and election of officers and directors.

Our volunteers continue to donate their time to preserve our heritage buildings and landmarks in the Lone Butte/Horse Lake area, including Water Tower Park/Rest Station, Alice Singleton Heritage House (ASHH), Lone Butte Museum, Willowford Schoolhouse, and the Lone Butte Pioneer Cemetery.

I have been informed by Interior Roads it is going to gravel the old cemetery road up to the bottom of the Lone Butte Rock parking area and we thank them for that.

Thanks to Cariboo Regional District (CRD) funding, we have been able to install a drain field around the ASHH, remove the old stumps, plant new grass, add insulation to the building, upgrade the electrical services, and put a new roof over the Defunbunker fallout shelter this year.

Appreciation is also extended to the 108 Building Supply for donating much of the material required for the new roof. Finally, the water can no longer come through the roof.

School news

Several new staff members have joined the Horse Lake Elementary School (HLES) staff this year, including Marissa Ball who teaches the grades 3/4 class, librarian Tamm Ozanne who teaches the grades 2/3 class and English as a second language, Kate Spencer who teaches the 6/7 class and Bobbi Fernandes who is the education assistant.

This year's parent advisory committee (PAC) president is Corrine Moore who is assisted by vice-president Sandi Kennedy, treasurer Irene Tinney and secretaries Kathy Grieve and Nathania Hindmarsh.

The PAC will be holding a book fair, during patent/teacher interviews, Oct. 19-22.

Firefighting news

The Lone Butte Fire Department held a garage/bake sale on Oct. 3 in its continuing efforts to raise funds for much needed firefighting equipment.
