Peter and Betty Lunn share a laugh with Mary Carter

The Lone Butte - Horse Lake Community Association (LBHLCA) had its annual general meeting Nov. 22 and there will be some new faces heading up the executive.

Christine Gallagher will be the new president with Heather Nelson as vice-president, Chris Schmidt as secretary, and the writer as treasurer. Directors include Lona Scott, Mary Carter and Tom Gallagher.

A big thank you goes out to Tracey Lervick who served as president for the past few years and has spearheaded a lot of projects for the community in that time.

Christmas craft fair

The annual Christmas Craft Fair is going full steam ahead on Dec. 3 at the local hall.

Doors open at 9:30 a.m., so plan to arrive early for best picks of the fine items that will be displayed. Donations of non-perishable food items will be collected for the local food bank, and there will be a concession providing snacks throughout the day.

The doors will close at 2:30 p.m. If you have any questions, call Pat McKay at 250-395-2114.

O.U.T. luncheon

The Other Unusual Talents group will be having its Christmas gift and cookie exchange and a pot-luck luncheon on Dec. 6.

If you are already a regular member of this unique group, mark your calendars, and if you have always wanted to check it out, now may be the perfect time to do so. For more information, call Pat McKay at 250-395-2114.

Community dinner

Mark your calendars for this year's Christmas community dinner on Dec. 11 at the hall.

This year, we are going to have a pot-luck dinner with the association providing a turkey, a ham and beverages. Please bring your favourite Christmas casserole, dessert and neighbour for this fun community event.

Santa is going to stop by for a visit, so parents should drop off an identified, wrapped gift for their child at Deb's Cariboo Consignment Store in Lone Butte, or discreetly bring it to the dinner for Santa to deliver.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with dining to begin at 5. Call the writer for more information at 250-644-1555.

Thank You

The LBHLCA would like to extend a thank you to Fortis BC, which recently installed a gas line to the community hall.

We are looking at some energy-efficient ways of heating, and this is a first step toward that goal.

School activities

Horse Lake Elementary School students are keeping busy with upcoming events.

Volleyball tournaments are coming up for grade 6s and 7s and the student council has been busy preparing for some other fun-filled events.

Colour day was held on Nov. 25 and Christmas Spirit Day will be on Dec. 9.

Because of current teacher job action, there will be no specific Christmas concert this year, but the season will be celebrated with other more individual classroom activities.

Fun time

Get your tickets now before they are sold out for the Feb. 25 Annual Fish and Wildlife Banquet and dance.

Indulge yourself with a great meal of roast beef, turkey and wild game, and then dance it off until the music winds down at 1 a.m. Wine and other refreshments will be included in the $40-per-person ticket, with prizes being given out through the night.
