Ted and Jeanette Atkinson found the perfect seafaring item that will go with some decor they already have. The Atkinson's found the treasure at Cariboo Consignment and Crafts appreciation day on Feb. 26.

History is starting again

The Lone Butte Historical Association (LBHA) will be starting their season on March 16, 7 p.m. at Alice Singleton's Heritage House. The LBHA does a lot of work around the Lone Butte area maintaining the Water Tower park and looking after the cemetery, as well as other projects. For more information please call Al or Gayle Jones at 250-395-5193.

Appreciation is served

Debbie Lambert of Cariboo Consignment and Crafts customer appreciation day on Feb. 26 was very well attended. Her daughter Sarah did a fantastic job of the refreshments, her carrot cake is the best. The two winners of the draws were; Sheryl Wehner receiving the bath luxury basket and Sue Moss winning the basket of chocolate and goodies.

Community Association news

The Lone Butte Horse Lake Community Association (LBHLCA) had 11 members attending their last meeting on Feb. 8. Topics discussed were the heating system that the members are hoping for. There is a new "green" grant available and the old hall meets the requirements. The new heating/cooling system should lower the bill by 50 per cent.

The old business of the problems with the sound quality at the hall and looking into acoustic tiles will have to put off for now as while checking out the crawl space for the new furnace, it was found that there is no vapour barrier, the area is very wet and quite a few rodents have met their death down there. This problem will have to be dealt with as soon as possible and certainly prior to getting the new heating system.

LBHLCA president, Tracey Lervik, will be meeting with a grant writer this month to try for grants for insulation and vapour barrier as well as the green grant.

The next meeting will be April 12, at 7 p.m., call Tracey at 250-706-7411.

LBHLCA first Craft fair Flea market of the season is happening on April 2, from 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. For more information or to rent tables call Audrey Burnell-Higgs at 250-395-4206.

Ladies are OUT

The ladies with Other Unusual Talents (OUT) are changing the meeting back to the first and third Tuesday of the month. This fun group meets at 10 a.m. with sewing projects or other crafts, bring a lunch, coffee and tea are provided. Everyone is welcome to drop in (nominal fee), for more information call Tracey at 250-706-7411.

Bin fires a waste

Yet again the Lone Butte Volunteer Fire Department was called out to fires at the transfer station. Remember folks, if you are throwing your ashes away from your stove or cleaning your ashtray make sure everything is completely out. It is a waste of resources to have the volunteers put these nuisance fires out and they are kept away from possible real emergencies. There is also the possibility of damaging the bin’s hydraulic system thereby making it unusable.
