Medal-bearers needed for Man in Motion tour

Rick Hansen looking for medal-bearers in 100 Mile House

The Man in Motion World Tour is celebrating its 25th anniversary by re-creating the Canadian portion of Rick Hansen's journey.

On March 27, 2012, the tour will head down from Williams Lake, through Lac la Hache, 108 Mile Ranch and 100 Mile House will be hosting the relay’s End of Day Celebration.

The World Tour was set in motion with Hansen putting the relay medal, designed by the Royal Canadian Mint, on the shoulders of 13-year-old Jacob Manning on Aug. 24. The medal will be passed to medal-bearers chosen to participate in the relay.

This same medal will be passed to each medal-bearer, linking 600 communities across Canada, including 100 Mile House. All medal-bearers will receive their own medal to remember the way in which they personally added to the momentum of the 25th Anniversary Relay.

Anyone interested in being a medal-bearer for the South Cariboo area must complete the contest entry form on the website: www.rickhansenrelay.com. The deadline is Dec. 28.

The local organizing committee is looking for a special individual to complete the last section of the day, carrying the medal onto the stage during the celebrations.

People are welcome to submit an entry of no more than 200 words, outlining why they think they should be chosen to carry the medal into our community celebrations. People must also complete the entry form on the above noted website.

Entries can be delivered to the District of 100 Mile House office, 385 Birch Ave., or mail to Box 340, 100 Mile House, B.C., no later than Nov. 7.
