The Mahood Falls Community Society voted in a new executive at their annual general meeting at the home of Maria and Hans Gosen on Aug. 6.

It was a very hot day, so the 22 members of the society gathered in the shade of large cedars by Canim Lake to discuss local issues and share a meal together.

Carol Preston gave the road report on behalf of Jim Booth, noting the gravelling of the 8100 Road has been completed.

Dave Bolton followed with a forestry report, updating the group on logging activities on roads leading out to 100 Mile House and to Clearwater. He noted the new frequency RR3 is now in effect on the 8100 Road. Several in the group mentioned a recent collision between a recreation vehicle and a loaded logging truck on that road.

The boat ramp at the Provincial Park has not yet been fixed. Take care when backing in lest the wheels of the trailer drop off the end.

Bob MacKenzie, who maintains the local landfill, said the current pit is basically full and he is cutting the banks back in order to make it last. He expects the Cariboo Regional District will dig a new trench this month.

The society has purchased two medical oxygen bottles and masks, which are available to anyone in case of medical emergency. They will be stored at Carol Preston’s home. Sheila Hart, a first responder instructor with the Forest Grove Volunteer Fire Department, demonstrated the use of the equipment for the gathering.

Dave Bolton gave a short report on the Mahood Lake temperature and turbidity readings he remits regularly to the lake stewardship staff of the Ministry of Environment.

The group then elected a new slate of officers for 2014/15: Carol MacKenzie, president; Bob MacKenzie, vice-president; Carol Preston, secretary; and Sharon Simms, treasurer. The directors are Anita Forrer, Gunther Rosenstock, Phil Simms, Dave Bolton and Bob Hinkkuri.

Having completed the business at hand, Bob Mackenzie fired up the grill, and with the aid of Dave Bolton, hamburgers and hotdogs began to join the many salads and goodies laid out on the tables.
