Recreational Roots!

In the beginning, in those wondrous days of yore, say 1970ish, we were called the 108 Mile 'Recreational' Ranch. Block Bros. vision was to create an 'outdoor playground', a five stage 26,800 acre seasonal recreational resort.

The Agricultural Land Reserve prevented the last four stages from proceeding, but luckily much of the recreational infrastructure was put in place first.

We are now 1,140 permanent homes at the 108, with a population of approx 2,900. The treasure of it is, that we have recreational facilities for a development, of about 7,000 homes.

It can get busy, but there are never lineups! Here are some of the things you can and should do at our 108 Community Hall on a weekly basis: Tai Chi, Zumba, Drum Circle, Yoga x 2, Barry's Dance, and lots of meetings, even AA Meetings.

Also twice a month we have Bingo, a games day afternoon and an open coffee group (both fun).

The 108 Lions, the RCA, the Heritage Site, The Hills, the School all seem to have things on the go every month.

For example, if you like music, tomorrow (Friday, March 17), the CCLF has a music event on stage, at their Solid Rock Cafe where talented local musicians play or sing a wide variety of music, (third Friday of each month).

Things have got so busy that now there is even Saturday night church. And any day now we will be back at the Resort playing tennis or golf or hiking and riding our many trails.

These activities are open to all and details of dates and times are all set out on our very impressive 108 community website put together by 108'er and volunteer, Jeff Newman (http:// www.108ranch.com/).

You can find most everything there from our history, maps, businesses, to our very own local tarot card reader.

And if there is an additional activity you would like to see, like say, Gangnam style tap-dancing for seniors, please email me your ideas and we will find out if there are like minded residents.

Local Winners

Congratulations to two popular 108 businesses for their success at the South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce Excellence Awards. The 108 Mile Supermarket won the best Community Based business and Rainer 's Health House won for best Home Based business. There were also many 108 residents connected to other nominations.

OCP

The CRD hosted our Official Community Plan Hearing the other night at the Hall. If you want input as to where we are going, take the online survey by the end of March, found through OCP on the CRD website. For example: are you in favour of AirBnB style vacation rentals at the 108?

"Ice Off"

The 108 Lions do great things for our Community, and you can now help them, help us, by purchasing a ticket on the annual "Ice-Off" contest.

One $2 ticket may give you a year of bragging rights, plus $200 cash. Tickets are at our local businesses.
