The 100 Mile House & District Women's Centre Society is able to assist men and women seeking to access legal aid services from the Legal Services Society (LSS).
The women’s centre can provide educational materials, apply for legal aid over the phone, assist with filling out forms to apply for Legal Aid, and assist those using the LSS website and ClickLaw.
Assistance is available from 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays at the women's centre, 102-475 Birch Ave., by appointment only. Those needing assistance should call 250-395-4093 to book an appointment.
The women's centre also offers pro bono legal clinics in conjunction with Access Justice out of Vancouver, which provides clients with half an hour of free legal advice with a lawyer.
“Currently, we have two lawyers offering their services,” says women’s centre office co-ordinator Charlotte Stockford.
One lawyer’s area of practice deals with wills and estates, human rights and privacy, contracts, civil procedure, torts -intentional and other, Torts - personal injury and negligence.
The other lawyer’s area of practice deals with civil and family law (next clinic for this lawyer will be Oct. 17 and Nov. 14).
