Representatives of the Lac la Hache Volunteer Fire Department, the community club, Cariboo Regional District chair Al Richmond and community members showed up at the community hall on April 13 for the cheque presentation.

Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett gave a $22,000 cheque to Lac la Hache Community Club treasurer Jeanette McCrea. The money will help replace the roof on the Lac la Hache Community Hall.

Barnett said Lac la Hache has a great spirit and an incredibly rich history. Noting the hall was built in 1936 and is in good shape, she added it needs to be preserved.

After approaching McCrea and learning the community hall roof needed replacing, Barnett said she encouraged the community club to fill out an application.

Noting it is tough for community raising money all the time, Barnett said she was pleased to be able to present a cheque to the community club for the project.

She added it would be nice to see the return of events, such as the regatta and the outhouse races, which have been a big part of the spirit of the community.

McCrea said the community is most grateful for Barnett's continued support.

She explained the community hall will see a facelift beginning in May and it should be completed by September, weather permitting.

The $22,000 provincial funds, together with the $17,300 grant from Western Economic Diversification Canada received earlier this year, will also help refinish the logs and get some foundation repairs done.
