The Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre is very excited to welcome Andrea Thain to its Family Support Services team.

As the new Developmental and Behavioral Conditions (CDBC) key worker, Andrea will provide support, education and advocacy for children and youth with complex CDBC.

She relocated to 100 Mile House shortly after completing her masters of education in counselling psychology and has worked in the public school setting as a counsellor and teacher.

Andrea says she is looking forward to the opportunity to work closely with families and community members to ensure young people with complex needs have a strong support system in place.

The CDBC Key Worker Program provides services to families of children and youth who have been diagnosed, or are in the process of being diagnosed, with a complex developmental or behavioral condition, such as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder (ADD/ADHD) or Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD).

The key worker is a non-judgmental helper who will guide families through the assessment process and work with the schools and other agencies within the community to ensure needed supports are in place.

Through counselling, parent-to-parent support and access to educational resources, the key worker will empower the family to develop a plan of care that will meet the needs of the family and the child.

Funding for this program is provided by Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).

For more information or to access the key worker/parent support program, contact the Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre (CFEC) at 250-395-5155.

Lloyd Garner is the CFEC’s Family Services Program manager.
