Dear citizens of 100 Mile House, welcome to Communities in Bloom (CIB).

This year marks 100 Mile House's first ever participation in the Community in Bloom's BC Program. The South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) has partnered with the District of 100 Mile House with the hope of generating awareness and enthusiasm by involving citizens of all ages.

Whether a community's aim is to increase tourism, general economic development or simply building civic pride, the face it presents to its citizens, and to others, is a key factor in achieving these goals. People and businesses want to be associated with a successful looking community, which is of particular importance to new residents, investors and visitors.

It is also true citizens want environmental integrity in their green spaces and respect for the geographical and regional heritage of their area. Achieving such integrity requires good horticultural practices and a visible valuing of the community's heritage.

It also sends a reassuring message the area honours its past, thereby increasing its desirability as a destination for visitors, investment and, most importantly, residents.

The SCCC will be participating in a "Get Growing" day being held in the South Cariboo Rec. Centre parking lot on May 29. This will be a perfect opportunity for local residents to purchase plants and planting material to fill their pots.

Community involvement is a major component in the overall CIB program.

Challenge your neighbours; challenge your friends; and compete block against block.

Who has the best balcony/patio garden? Who has the best herb/vegetable garden, the best dry-scape, the best front yard design, the best back yard, and the tidiest block? Who has the Best Overall?

Yes, these are the categories.

Get your entry registration at the District or the Chamber offices.

Residential entry forms will be available at the "Get Growing" plant sale, via e-mail and they are available at the District office now.

Be proud of the community you live, work and play in. Be a part of Communities in Bloom.
