Interlakes residents show their hearts with giftboxes

Community news happening around the Bridge Lake and Interlakes areas

Interlakes residents distributed 21 Christmas Giftboxes this year on Dec. 17, thanks to the generosity of many people.

Interlakes Hall representative Gyl Connaty voiced special thanks to Deka Lake & District Volunteer Fire Department (DL&DVFD)  for doing its annual food-drive at Deka, and to its Ladies Auxiliary for the donation of two turkeys. Each giftbox included a turkey or barbecued chicken; all of which were donated by various generous residents.

The Log Cabin Quilters (LCQ) held an in-house auction that raised $345, and instead of buying gifts for each other, Friends of Lac des Roches & Birch Lake donated $200 to the cause. In addition, sizable donations of food or cash were received from Interlakes Carpet Bowlers, Interlakes Lions, Interlakes Snowmobile Club, Bridge Lake Schools' Christmas concert, and the LCQ.

Through a "special donation Sunday," which raised $8,000 at Cariboo Christian Life Fellowship, their affiliated Interlakes Bible Study Group was given $500. They, in turn, purchased $100 Save-On certificates to be given to families with children on the Giftbox list.

In addition to all the above, the LCQ made placemats for each giftbox, with a minimum of four, to a maximum of 10 for one large family.

Valentine’s dance

The Interlakes Community Association will be holding a Valentine's Dance at Interlakes Hall on Feb. 11, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Now that the organization has a primary liquor licence, reservations are not required and your $15 tickets will simply be purchased at the door. Ticket prices include light refreshments and door prizes. Be sure to bring your sweetheart for a romantic evening.

Winning author

Congratulations to Deka's Alamaz Durant who won the Free Press Christmas adult story contest with her tale of the surprise squirrel that came in from the cold in their Christmas tree.

A resident since childhood, Alamaz, now 22, is a keen supporter of, and vocalist/musician for Interlakes youth groups, Kids Space and Teen Space. We now know she has other talents, too!

Exhibition rescheduled

Please note the Fourth Annual Bridge Lake Photo Group Exhibition will not be held in January this year but, rather, on April 8.
