Good news; the Ice Off contest has been extended to April 15, so there are a few more days to get some more guesses in.
The closest guess to the exact time the ice is off wins $100 in cash, and new this year, there is a random draw for prizes. Tickets are $2 per guess and are available from all 108 Lions, Dowe's Diner, 108 Supermarket, Vidas (which is open again), and Esso Gas. For more information, call Lion Jim at 250-791-6633.
Bake Sale
It’s time to get your Easter baking done, with the help of the Goldrush Grannies' Bake Sale on April 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the 108 Mall.
Proceeds from the sale go directly to the Stephen Lewis Fund to assist grandmothers in Africa raising children orphaned by AIDS and HIV.
Bird sightings
In spite of the fact it’s snowing recently, spring and summer birds are flocking back.
About 50 sandhill cranes were spotted high above the 108 today. Audrey Hoeg spotted a swallow last week, and this writer noted two bluebirds in the Walker Valley.
Other sightings include a bluebird along Tatton Road, robins, varied thrushes, juncoes, pine siskins, American goldfinches, widgeons, Canada geese, mallards, red-winged blackbirds, and meadowlarks - one in the Walker Valley and another in the Block Drive community pasture.
Solid Rock Cafe
Remember April 15 is the next date for the Solid Rock Cafe at the Rock Centre, on the church grounds of the 108 Cariboo Christian Life Fellowship.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the music starts at 7. For more information, contact Pat at 250-395-3846 or Michael at 250-395-2826.
