Horse Lake school in for a busy couple of weeks

There will be lots of activities to greet the students when they return to Horse Lake Elementary School from their two-week spring break.

On March 29 at 8:45 a.m., there will be an educational and inspirational musical experience with the popular Blues Berries who perform a variety of musical styles while teaching some music history.

The highly acclaimed Missoula Theatre will also be at the school April 4-9 and the group will incorporate 50-60 students in a performance of Treasure Island. Students must audition and practise their lines and be dedicated to rehearsals throughout the week to bring everything together for two performances on April 9.

Students also will be in full practice mode for the upcoming Festival of The Arts as classes will be presenting their talent on April 26 in 100 Mile House.

Report cards went home with students on their spring break and many students' parents will be pleased with the remarks for their children being on the principal's list and the honour roll. Alanna Chamberlain, Dayna Meger, Chris Cruikshank and Alex Seiler are on the honour roll this term.

Condolences

Thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Lone Butte resident Sam Moore who passed away peacefully on Feb. 22.

He was a familiar figure in the Lone Butte area and longtime resident of the Cariboo. A celebration of his life will be held on March 27 at 2 p.m. at 100 Mile Community Hall.

Training completed

Lone Butte Volunteer Fire Department (LBVFD) chief Mike Collinge reports that training courses have been completed in several areas.

Sandy MacNeil, Allen Nelson and Darrick Fletcher completed the 32-hour First Responder Level 3 course.

Mark Roseboom, Russell Forson, Keith Fleing and Nelson received their air brake endorsement tickets, and David Fletcher and James Harrod completed the Fire Scene Management course.

Our thanks go out to all of the volunteers who willingly give up their time to maintain and improve their training, so they can be effective in their important job of saving lives.

OUT back in

The Other Unusual Talents (OUT) gals get together at the Lone Butte Hall on the first and third Tuesdays of each month to work independently or together on a craft or project.

Note the change of day to Tuesdays.

Back to reality

With the eight performances of Annie finished, reality has hit at the Schuurman household, as we now carry on with our day-to-day lives, which include this column.

Thank you to Heather Nelson who wrote the local happenings for me last issue as my time was fully invested in the performance.

It is difficult to say goodbye to an experience that has taken up all one's time and energy for such a long period.

It was a wonderful experience and great to be involved in such a wonderful organization as the 100 Mile Performing Arts Society.
