Help develop community food assessment, action plan

South Cariboo Food Security Committee hosting a public forum

The South Cariboo Food Security Committee is hosting a public forum at the Agri-Culture Centre in The Lodge (behind the Red Coach Inn) in 100 Mile House on March 25.

“This is the first in a series of public round-table meetings for achieving our goal,” says committee vice-chair Rita Giesbrecht.

The committee wants to do a Community Food Assessment and an Action Plan for the South Cariboo. Topics will include:

• What is a Community Food Assessment and why can it help?

• How will we proceed? There is good groundwork done, we can use the expertise of many other communities.

• Identifying the gaps in Food Security.

• Taking action to fill those gaps by building on our strengths.

• Educating children and youth about food and food security.

• Health and well-being through food and agriculture.

• What will it look like?

The doors open for the public forum at 5 p.m. and the meeting starts at 6.

“Feel free to bring something to eat before the meeting. The coffee will be on,” says Giesbrecht.
