Great show at Horse Lake Elementary School

The year is 1782 when the young Jim Hawkins, played by Wyatt Bishop, falls under the spell of Long John Silver and goes on a daring adventure to Skull Mountain in search of buried treasure.

With a cast of slightly more than 50 students, the Missoula Children's Theatre orchestrated a wonderful performance of the classic story Treasure Island.

From the seaweed stew and fish head chowder served with a smile at the Whalesbreath Inn, to the snakes and spiders found on the island, the cast provided great entertainment for family and friends who came out to support the show.

With only one week to put it all together, students rehearsed daily and were provided with costumes and acting skills through the non-profit travelling theatre group from Missoula, Mt.

Good job to everyone who participated both onstage and behind the scenes.

Easter egg hunt

The annual Easter candy hunt will be held at the Lone Butte Community Hall on April 24 at 1 p.m.

Prizes will be awarded for a colouring contest, and participants can dye eggs and, of course, participate in the great candy hunt. If anyone would like more information or would like to make a donation of wrapped Easter candy to this event, please contact Mary Carter at 250-395-1994.

Lone Butte Rocks

Plans are being made for the Third Annual Lone Butte Rocks on June 18, with organizers gathering entertainers, vendors and other craft and flea market displays to make this year even bigger and better than the last.

Stay posted for more information as we get closer to the date. For more information or if you would like to participate by providing some musical or other entertainment, set up a booth to display your wares, or volunteer to help, please contact Heather Nelson at 250-395-3588.

Historical Association

Meetings are held the third Wednesday of the month at the Alice Singleton Heritage House on Highway 24 in Lone Butte.

The association focuses on preserving the rich history of the Lone Butte area. With various improvement projects on the go and new information always surfacing with each old story, it is a good place to expand our knowledge on the local heritage.

Contact Al or Gayle Jones at 250-395-5193 for more information or to share your Lone Butte history.

Grass fire warning

Local fire chief Mike Collinge is warning everyone to be extra cautious with their spring burning, as the local fire department has had its first out-of-control grass fire already. We need to be sure to have equipment and plenty of water accessible at all times and to burn with a buddy and never alone.

Collinge says the ground is dry and there’s a high risk to spark a fire regardless of the spring melt that may make things look wet.

Contact Collinge at 250-395-3112 for more information or to apply to become a volunteer firefighter.

Community Association

While there were rumours of the hall needing a new foundation, let me put that to rest and say we "are" needing some rather substantial repairs on the hall, but are far from replacing the entire foundation.

The association executive is looking into ways to solve the issues and various contractors have been problem-solving with different quotes soon to be looked at with a resolution in mind.

Have you taken out your membership for your local community association?

Please spend the $5 and include your name on the membership list. Call the writer at 250-644-1555 or come to an association meeting held on the second Tuesday of the month at the hall.
