On Dec. 20, the Goldrush Grannies held their annual Christmas Bake Sale in the 108 Mall, and through donations and the sale of baked goods, raised $535 for the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

This foundation helps grandmothers in Africa look after children orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

Thanks to everyone who donated, baked, and bought.

Solid Rock Cafe

The Solid Rock Cafe will resume its series of music later this month at the Rock Youth Centre beside the Cariboo Christian Life Fellowship church on Telqua Drive.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., music starts at 7 and usually winds up around 9 p.m. Contact Pat Melanson at 250-395-3846 for exact dates.

Coffee Club

This drop-in coffee time is held on the first and third Thursdays of the month (excluding holidays) from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the 108 Community Centre's main hall.

Coffee, tea, and snacks are available for a $2 drop-in fee. Some houses have been sold over Christmas and new folks have moved in, so come on out and meet your new friends and neighbours.

All 108 residents are welcome. Contact Maggie Griffiths at 250-791-7263 or Deb Porter at 250-791-6472 for more information.

Happy new year

I can't say I'm sorry to see 2011 go, but I am looking forward to 2012.

So many people suffered losses last year and/or are continuing to fight battles this year. If you see a neighbour or friend struggling, jump in and lend a hand.

The only better feeling than seeing that hand stretched out to help you up is having the chance to be the owner of the hand that's reaching out. It's all what makes the 108 so great.

At any rate, I hope everyone enjoys a happy, healthy new year.
