Friendship Centre seeks director

Society board has a position opening for new volunteer

The Stemete7uw’i: A Gathering Place Friendship Centre Society is reaching out to the community for a volunteer to join its board of directors.

Friendship Centre co-ordinator Rob Diether says the new director they are seeking, for a one- or two-year term, is someone who has previous board experience.

"The board of directors hold regular monthly meetings on the first Thursday of the month. We meet evenings – late spring, summer and early fall – with afternoon meetings during the winter."

Stemete7uw’i is the result of six years of volunteer efforts that involved meetings with many organizations and agencies in the South Cariboo, including the Canim Lake Band, White Feather Family Centre, Eliza Archie Memorial School, South Cariboo Community Planning Council, Canadian Mental Heath Association-South Cariboo, Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre and others, he notes.

The society was incorporated in 2013, and the Friendship Centre opened its doors in July 2015.

"The board is presently focusing on strategic planning and preparing for major funding applications in 2017."

Diether adds in addition to applying for various grants, fundraising activities are also underway.

They hope to find a community member with the willingness and experience to join their current board.

"Please consider contributing to an inspiring and valuable project in our community."

Interested individuals are encouraged to drop off a written application, including an outline of previous board experience, at Stemete7uw’i Friendship Centre, 106 B Blackstock Road (behind St. Timothy’s Anglican Church), 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Monday to Friday; mail it to Box 1030, 100 Mile House, B.C. V0K 2E0, or e-mail to stemete7uwifriendship@gmail.com.
