Two young ladies are planning a free community event on Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Centennial Park, which is part of the Get Outside BC initiative.
Canim Lake sisters, Andrea and Debrah Zemanek say they wanted to organize something so everyone can go outside and enjoy the outdoors more. They are calling their event Go Play Outside.
"Participants can register and get a 'fun pass' and receive a sticker for each activity they do," says Andrea.
"There will be different activity stations, including soccer, ultimate Frisbee, nature crafts, yoga, hiking and more."
At the end of the day, participants receive a ticket for each sticker they have and the tickets can be entered for some awesome draw prizes, she adds.
Get Outside BC is a project designed to inspire young people to engage with British Columbia's culture and natural heritage.
It is being organized and delivered by BC Parks, Mountain Equipment Co-op, Child and Nature Alliance, CPAWS-BC and Parks Canada, the girls say, adding it's sparked by a desire to get digital youth into the great outdoors.
Both of us are 16, says Debrah.
"We both love being active and hope this event will inspire others to get outside more, too."
