Local resident Richard Bergen took some time to 'dig out' the fire hydrants that had been buried under a mountain of snow throughout Forest Grove.

Heavy snowfall caused Forest Grove’s fire hydrants to become buried and inaccessible in case of a fire.

So, local volunteer Richard Bergen shouldered his snow shovel and got to work. There are 13 hydrants throughout the community– from Canim-Hendrix Lake Road and Eagle Creek Road to Bakken Road and Shaw Drive – that required his attention.

Now, Forest Grove is once again (fire) safe.

Author visit

On Feb. 12, Williams Lake author Willie Sellars and illustrator Kevin Easthope visited Forest Grove Elementary School as part of a province-wide tour to not only introduce their book, Dipnetting with Dad, but also explain how it came all about and why.

They started their presentation by reading the book and showing the beautiful illustrations to a captivated audience of students, teachers and guests. Willie explained the reason behind his writing this book was to introduce and pass on the knowledge of dipnetting, a First Nation tradition.

Kevin talked about how he discovered his love of drawing and how he turned it into a career. He also explained the sequence of creating the illustrations for the book from beginning to end, the many different drafts he drew to capture the events just right and what it took to make it the work of art it is now.

Finally, it was question time, which the students took full advantage of, as well as describing their own experiences with fishing in general. Then they mingled with the author and illustrator, asked more questions and wander about the room to have a look at props and drawings that had been set up and laid out.
