Flea market to assist in wheelchair repair

Canim Lake Band member needs wheelchair repairs

Life entered the slow lane for Canim Lake Band (CLB) member Evan Daniels when his electric wheelchair stopped working recently.

Evans, 31, has cerebral palsy and he depends on his electric-powered wheelchair to get around and keep him in touch with people in his community who figure so greatly into his well-being.

The repair bill for his chair is estimated to be close to $10,000, and to help him pay for it, the band is assisting Daniels by hosting of a flea market Aug. 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the CLB parking lot.

Tables can be rented for $10, and along with flea market items, there will be a barbecue lunch, face painting, children's games and a walk-in bingo.

Daniels will be there all day with his own market table and a toonie auction table.

CLB member Chantil Frank says that with the loss of his electric wheelchair, Daniels has lost his mobility and independence. He now depends on a manual chair, which is difficult for him to manoeuvre.

"We don't see him as much in the community now. We used to see him outside all the time. It's important for him to see community members and family."
