Firefighters boot overflows for Muscular Dystrophy

108 Mile volunteers amazed by community's generosity

108 Mile Ranch Volunteer Fire Department (108VFD) assistant chief Larry Knutsen says the crew is grateful for the great donations to its local "Fill the Boot" campaign for Muscular Dystrophy this year.

"The 108 fire hall would like to thank the community for the Sept. 24 Muscular Dystrophy Drive. We raised $1,115."

Firefighters across the country hold various Muscular Dystrophy Boot Drives each year, where all of the money raised goes directly to Muscular Dystrophy Canada, he notes.

Knutsen adds the local fire crew at 108 Mile Ranch was excited to see it had reached a new high in its recent fundraising.

"When I first took over we did $600, then we did $800, and this time we did [about] $1,100. We were pretty pleased with the community, I'll tell you."

The assistant chief notes firefighters Mike Marcuzzi and Theresa Hatton and himself were "wowed" when they totalled up the donations they'd received after a single day's drive in the big firefighter's boot at the 108 Mall.
