The Farrier Pizza and Grill is celebrating their grand opening this weekend.

To mark the occasion owner Daniel McCollom is using it as a fundraiser for the 100 Mile House Fire Rescue.

“We wanted to have a big grand opening to let people know that we are community oriented and that we could bring in the community.

“We thought we would do a big fundraiser for a non-profit and it was a no-brainer who we wanted to do it for:

“It was for the 100 Mile Fire Rescue. When we were all running away, they were running towards the fires,” says McCollom.

“We thought it would be a big banger to start our opener off to recognize these men [and women].”

The Farrier Pizza and Grill is throwing a number of events during the weekend — Friday, March 2 will see live music starting at 7 p.m.; Saturday, March 3 will be a community and family day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and on Sunday, March 4 they’ll be hosting what will become a regular Sunday brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Donations, proceed from a silent auction and a number of loonie games will go towards the fire department.

“Saturday is community day, where we are inviting all the kids to come in, we are going to have a bunch of games set up for them and the 100 Mile Fire Rescue is going to bring their truck to have a big gathering,” says McCollom.

“We know that the 100 Mile area and the areas around it have such huge community support, so we know a lot of people are going to want to support the fire department,” he says.

Fire chief Roger Hollander says that they’ll be at the event to support the community.

“They reached out and asked us if we would be there to help support their opening and we are certainly going to do that much like we do anybody else in the community. We will have our firetruck there and hopefully spread some water with the kids,” he says.

“We are there to support them and it sounds like they are supporting us.”

On McCollom’s part, he says he’s looking forward to recognizing the fire department.

“This is about recognizing them, everyone coming out giving them a handshake and if you can donate a few bucks that would be great.”
