Donations sought for women’s centre clients

Women's centre looking for cash and gift card donations to help make a brighter Christmas for clients

The 100 Mile House & District Women's Centre Society is seeking donations of cash and gift certificates, which could be for grocery stores, movies, clothing, pharmacies and the like, to be put in Christmas hampers for those who need it the most within its client base.

“We can only give out as many hampers as donations come in and every year we always have way more applications than resources,” says office co-ordinator Charlotte Stockford.

“Although everyone applying knows we cannot give hampers to all who apply, we try very hard to help as many as we can. Typically, we give a gift card to a local grocery store so a mom can buy everything she needs for a great Christmas dinner and give a few gifts for both mom and their child or children along with some treats and wrapping paper and accessories so mom can wrap the gifts up and put them under the tree.”

Stockford adds they also try to give Christmas decorations if resources allow for it.

“As we don't have any funding to dip into for this, we really need our community support. We are collecting applications until Dec. 1.
