On March 21, the Watch Lake-Green Lake Community Association (WLGLCA) presented past president Dimps Horn a framed painting of a loon on a feather, which was painted by Tess Froehlich.
This gift was to thank her for the seven years of devotion to the association.
Dimps is still very active with the organization and the new board members appreciate her resourcefulness and all the help she has given them since February's annual general meeting.
Steak and chili
The WLGLCA is having a Steak and Chili Dinner on April 16th at the Watch Lake Community Hall.
Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6. Tickets are $20 each.
If you would like to purchase tickets, contact Joni Guenther at 250-456-7330 or Judy Thatcher at 250-456-6031.
Night beauty
Like millions of diamonds, the stars above our heads tell us both romantic stories that lovers like and also scientific truths.
When looking up on a clear night, far away from artificial lights and not using a telescope or binoculars, we can see about 5,000 to 6,000 stars.
The staff of the Graham Dunden Ranch wants to offer a service to our readers. They love watching the night sky and would like to share what they enjoy with the people in the community.
They are planning an adventure night walk, beginning at dusk, to show what is in the night sky and to explain the fascinating events going on in the twinkling sky overhead. The get-together is scheduled on April 23 at 9:30 p.m. to coincide with the meteor showers.
The walk will be held at the Graham Dunden Ranch, 8485 Graham Dunden Rd., off North Green Lake Road. For details, phone Ken at 250-395-0756.
They will commence their walk at 10 p.m. There is a $5 fee, but children under 18 are free. All moneys collected will be donated to the Watch Lake/North Green Lake Volunteer Fire Department (WLNGLVFD).
Please bring your binoculars.
Address signs
This is a friendly reminder about the joint program between WLNGLVFD and the 100 Mile House Lions Club for selling residential address signs in our area.
The signs are eight inches high by 16 inches wide and are made of engineer-grade aluminum with five-inch black numbers on a white, highly reflective background.
When placed at the entrance of your driveway, these signs can be easily seen in the day, at night and in bad weather and are approved by the WLNGLVFD. The signs cost $15 for single-sided and $25 for double-sided.
If you wish to order or have any questions, contact Gisele Poliseno at 250-395-9082. The deadline for ordering these signs is April 30.
Special wishes
Happy belated 14th wedding anniversary goes to George and Candace Tyler. This special day was celebrated on April 2.
A get-well wish and speedy recovery from the WLNGLVFD Auxiliary goes out to Judy Cole, who underwent surgery a couple of weeks ago.
