At Deka Lake and District Volunteer Fire Department's (DL&DVFD) Feb. 5 ice-fishing derby, the Ladies Auxiliary (LA) made the draw for the annual Kay Neil Memorial Quilt.
In addition to having always produced a large quilt and pillows for their fundraising raffle, the ladles create a smaller one to honour their chief quilter who passed away in 2003. The draw is made from all of the fire department and ladies auxiliary members, except those who have won before.
Congratulations go to this year's winner firefighter Sean Sullivan who was not present but has since received the quilt.
Due to a current and serious dearth of quilters, the LA has decided not to create a quilt for its 2011 raffle.
Bingo fund
At the LA's January meeting, the bingo commission presented a cheque for $3,050, being proceeds of 2010 bingo games.
Family bingo games recommence on March 16 and 23. Come on out and start building the Super G pot again. It reached more than $1,200 before being won at the Christmas game.
Folks will also enjoy door prizes and the famous bake-table raffle.
Great derby
The Lions' Feb. 20 Ice-Fishing Derby at Sheridan Lake raised an incredible $5,650.80 for B.C. Lions Society for Children with Disabilities.
Ticket sales numbered 980 and this is in great part due to the fact strong supporter Stan Matthews spent many days selling advance tickets in Save-On-Foods foyer.
Sheridan Lake houses only rainbow trout, and five fish were caught at the derby.
Jason Ruscheinsky's 2 lb. 1O oz. fish took first youth prize, while Brody Morman (1 lb. 11 oz.) placed second.
Adult prizes went to Doyle Beek for both first and third (5 lb. 4 oz. and 1 lb. 1 3 oz.), while Leo Eesting placed second with his 2 1b. 1 oz. fish.
Matthews voiced his deep appreciation to the generous prize donors, as well as to the volunteers and the public for their support.

Congratulations go to Interlakes honours students: Rhyce Barnbrook, Ramona Bauer, Hailey Blattler, Carolyn Cook, Brent Ehlers, Jesse Granberg, Zoe Jackson, Amber Parker, Kimberly Rottluff, Mikayla Rottluff, Carissa Ruscheinsky Jason Ruscheinsky, Nicole Weston and Nicole Walry.
Addressing problem
Interlakes residents are reminded that starting July 1, any mail not addressed to street addresses will be returned to sender.
Many people's mail is still being addressed to RRI mail sites, and will not be delivered after July 1.
In addition, when people receive a key for the parcel box (because there is a parcel for you in the box), they must return the key into the outgoing mail slot, not into their own box.
Finally, a new contract is in place to keep mail sites clear of snow and ice. If there is a problem at your site, call postmistress Audrey Nelson at 250-395-4747 and she will contact the contractor.
Heads up
