Deka firefighters sort though and load boxes of non-perishables that were collected from Deka residents during their annual food drive Nov. 6.

Once again, Deka Lake residents came through and the Deka Lake & District Volunteer Fire Department’s (DL&SVFD) annual food drive on Nov. 6 netted some 500 pounds of food and $265 cash.

All proceeds help Interlakes Community Association put together more than 20 Christmas Giftboxes for those who need a little help. The giftboxes will be assembled and delivered from Interlakes Hall on Dec. 17, and each will include a turkey, or chicken for the single person.

Women helping women

At their Nov. 9 meeting, the DL&DVFD Ladies Auxiliary (LA) collected $325 to assist other women this Christmas. It was also agreed the LA would match the funds donated by their members, thereby providing $650 to spend on less-fortunate women.

Firehall addition

The addition to Deka Firehall with Lone Butte contractor Gary Kremsner is well underway.

For their part, the ladies auxiliary is looking forward to having somewhere to store their many fitness balls.

Family bingo

The LA reminds residents Deka's Christmas Family Bingo will be held Dec. 14.

The upstairs firehall doors open at 6:15 p.m. and play starts at 7. Come enjoy the game, special good neighbour and door prizes, and a Super G at more than $500.

The ladies auxiliary members have received a text assuring them that Santa will also drop by.

Party cancelled

Owing to the low number of young children in the immediate area, Deka Lake & District Ratepayers' Association has announced it will not hold a Children's Christmas Party this year.

Celebrations

Birthday bubbly goes to Michelle Nedved who turns 21 today (Nov. 23), and to Celia Visscher. Many congratulations go to Erna and Wolf Zink on their 60th wedding anniversary tomorrow (Nov. 24).

Duplicate Bridge

Bridge Lake Duplicate Bridge Club will hold its Christmas Party on Dec. 10 at a private residence.

If you wish to play and/or need a partner, call Sharon Stewart at 250-593-2126. The club will continue to play on Thursday evenings until Dec. 15, then break for Christmas, and resume on Jan. 5.
