CRD seeking input for emergency response plan

Community news happening around the Deka Lake area of the South Cariboo

The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) is holding an emergency planning open house at Deka Fire Hall on Feb. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m.

In the past, people have complained the powers-that-be try to do things without any input from those who know what they are talking about. A recent example was the placement of the mail site at Renney Road, which was later changed to somewhere more acceptable.

The CRD has listened to that valid complaint and the main purpose of this event is for them to gather information from us, the "experts."

Residents who have strong feelings on any one point are asked to drop by and give their knowledge to the CRD. Equipment owner-operators particularly are asked to drop in and register.

Specifics include how do we wish to be contacted in an emergency and who would volunteer to be the regional primary contact, which roads are viable and which are not, and what other hazards exist here.

This "hazardous risk vulnerability analysis" hopes to address all the above points in one document, so that in the event of an emergency, such as a wildfire, a flood or even a volcano, solutions are "ready to go."

Further specifics can be found on the CRD website at www.cariboord.bc.ca

Showcase artist

Lone Butte's Rosi Salzbrenner is the guest artist in Bridge Lake Library's Community Showcase for the month of February.

Rosi moved to Canada from Germany in 1988, and moved from lnvermere in 2004. Since then, she has become quite famous for her alpacas, as well as her scrumptious European baking served in her small restaurant.

In addition to spinning her own alpaca wool, she offers educational tours and is currently learning to weave her own wool.

All her displayed items, including wall friezes, art pieces and baby blankets/ comforters, are made with her own hand-spun alpaca fleece.

Off to Lapland

Bridge Lake librarian Brenda Tillyer advises the next "Travels on Sunday" will take folks to Lapland/Finland with Piri and Eric DeVries.

Enjoy the "wishing you were there" trip Feb. 12 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

It should also be note the Fourth Annual Photo Exhibition will be on April 1, and not April 8 as previously stated.

Many congratulations go to Eileen and Gordon Hutchinson on their 56th wedding anniversary Feb. 4.

On Feb. 5, birthday bubbly goes to Johann Miller and Alice Rickenbacher, and two huge balloons go to Rox Dorward. Greta Rickenbacher celebrates her birthday Feb. 6.
