The Cariboo Regional District held an open house at Lone Butte Community Hall on Feb. 11, where residents were invited to learn more about emergency planning.

Area residents were encouraged to get involved by contributing their knowledge of back-woods trails and roadways that might be used in an emergency, as well as register their names on a notification and volunteer list. People who have equipment, such as earth-moving machinery, or livestock trailers, were also encouraged to register so they might be used if the need arises.

It was a very educational event. Fires happen, as we have all witnessed in recent years. Planning ahead of time is always best and the more information the organizing team has, the better off we all will be.
