The Bridge Lake Elementary School Parents Advisory Committee's (PAC) annual dinner auction was a phenomenal success

As usual, Bridge Lake Elementary School Parents Advisory Committee's (PAC) annual dinner auction was a phenomenal success, with 152 guests attending.

The school's gymnasium looked amazing in red and black complemented by large shiny silver stars, while the walls bore the school children's artwork and poems describing their ideal Christmas.

The excellent barbecued chicken dinner was prepared by Eagan Lake Resort's Kris and Cheryl Verheul, with assistance from Ed Stacey.

In order to get finished before 1 a.m. this year, organizers put the smaller auction items into "baskets" and 36 baskets were auctioned off, in addition to the individual, larger items. These included two pairs of hockey tickets, which went for some $1,250; the Duplicate Bridge Club's "bar" basket which sold for more than $300; and the Log Cabin Quilters quilt which fetched $525.

Auctioneer Stu McFadden, with the assistance of Kris Verheul, accepted bids totalling an astonishing $17,000. In all, including dinner receipts, beverages, 50/50 draws and cash donations, the delightful evening, which did indeed conclude at 10:45 p.m., raised $19,704.29.

The PAC is extremely grateful to the entire Interlakes community for their terrific support.

Thin ice

Residents are reminded that ice on the lakes is not thick enough to withstand the weight of large dogs.

Every year, it seems we lose one through thin ice. Watch over your pets and do not let them go out onto the ice.

Yummy pastry

Interlakes' loss is 100 Mile's gain now that Valda has moved her pastry shop from Sheridan Lake into town (481 Alder Ave., next to Super Save).

However, Interlakes residents wish her all the best and great success in her new location.

Avalanche safety

Folks have an opportunity to participate in Bridge Lake Community School's (BLCS) Avalanche Safety Training, Level I, on Jan. 14-15.

The course includes classroom and outdoor training and runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

Registration and the fee payment in advance are required by Jan. 11. For more information, call BLCS co-ordinator Wendy Dubbin at 250-593-4538.
