Community competition coming bloomin' fast

Local Communities in Bloom (CiB) organizers are eager to get involved with the 2012 CiB program

Local Communities in Bloom (CiB) organizers are eager to get involved with the 2012 CiB program.

2011 was the first year 100 Mile House entered the contest, winning a very respectable three out of five blooms, and Centennial Park was granted a first-year award for being "Naturally Beautiful."

"We are planning a CiB meeting very soon," says Tom Bachynski, one of the organizers.

"There are still a few formalities to go through, but we are hoping for the same partnerships we had last year."

The 2011 partnerships included the South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce and the District of 100 Mile House.

CiB is not just flowers, Bachynski says, adding it includes how the town keeps the streets clean, the water system and more.

Noting they also had to prepare and submit a profile binder, he says it can be viewed at http://100milehouse.com/userfiles/cib_profile_book.

"We learned a lot last year, and we have some great ideas for this year, like possibly getting the Cedar Crest clients involved in helping some of the businesses.

"We are also hoping for more signage. The community as a whole and residences should be recognized."

Bachynski says he is proud of the community's involvement with CiB 2011 and is looking forward to 2012.
