The entertainment is lined up, food is being prepared, cards are being placed, and pies are being baked for the Third Annual Lone Butte Rocks community celebration on June 18.

Come out to our little town from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and participate in the poker walk/run, get your children’s faces painted, enjoy the 4H petting zoo, or enjoy the pie-eating contest.

There will be stage entertainment throughout the day, an all-day craft sale at the community hall, as well as a large flea market downtown where you can hunt for treasures.

Local businesses will be having specials and everyone is invited. Contact Heather Nelson at 250-395-3588 for more information or Pat McKay 250-395-2114 about indoor/outdoor bazaar table rentals.

Sports day

With large, grey thunder clouds looming in the background, the rain held off, and intermediate students at Horse Lake Elementary were able to enjoy their sports day June 2.

Competing in triple jump, long jump, and other track-and-field events, there were some close finishes while friends and relatives cheered on the athletes who did their best to take home a ribbon or two.

The parent advisory committee held a concession with hotdogs, popcorn and other goodies throughout the day, and a good time was had by all.

Top point winners in their respective age groups were Ben Ryan, Cassidy Gagnon, Devin Martin, Lily Holleywell, Cooper Uphill, Ocea Gunn, Mitchell Hooper, Madeline Martin, and Tanner Hooper.

Runners-up were Cameron Gallaher, Sarah Zailo, Harry Gale, Sara Newstead, Aydin Barnbrook, Moriah Zailo, Juztis Vose, Olivia Gulliman and Ryan Allan.

Thanks go out to all the volunteer helpers and cheerleaders who made the day a success.

OUT done

The gals from Lone Butte's OUT group (Other Unusual Talents) have stitched things up for the summer and will be enjoying the sunny weather and doing other home-front activities.

They will resume their bi-weekly get-togethers at the community hall in September.

Father's Day derby

Get your registration in at Exeter Sports for this weekend's Family Fun Day and fishing derby at No Name Lake.

The Lone Butte Fish and Wildlife Association (LBWFA) is hosting the June 17-19 non-alcohol/drug-free family-friendly event. Camping is available, and along with the derby, there will be .22-calibre shooting, archery and lots of prizes.

See the LBFWA website at www.lonebuttefishandwildlife.com for more details or give George Ostoforoff at 250-395-4027 or Jude Dion 250-395-4626 a call.

The next association meeting will be held on June 23 at 7 p.m. at Lone Butte Community Hall.

Be alert

At 10:30 p.m. on June 5 on Watch Lake Road, several kilometres down from the Highway 24 junction, a neighbour had a mysterious visitor.

A young woman knocked on her door crying and claiming to be at the end of her rope and needing a place to stay. The homeowner did not let the young gal in as the whole scenario seemed rather suspicious, and she then wandered back out to the road.

It appears no other close neighbours were approached, so it’s unsure if this was a legitimate need or a scam. People need to stay alert and call the RCMP at 250-395-2456 if they have any mysterious visitors.
