This year's graduates from David Stoddart School are Boone Park

Cloudy skies and occasional showers did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the six graduates in Clinton on June 25.

This is the first graduating class since the amalgamation of the elementary and secondary schools into one in Clinton.

The David Stoddart School grad ceremony was held outdoors in Reg Conn Centennial Park.

Umbrellas were the order of the day for the grads during the processional to the band shell. A tent had been rented for the comfort of the family and friends who gathered to share in the event.

Following the singing of O Canada, led by Monique Carmichael, School District 74 Trustee Nancy Rempel addressed the grads, congratulating them and wishing them well in their future endeavours.

Principal Susan Schalles added her well-wishes.

Then, Karen Miller said she is very proud of these students, most of whom she has taught since Grade 5. Theirs was the first class she taught after being hired by the school district.

Nolan Buis and Jane Hainstock gave a joint valedictorian address, offering some amusing anecdotes of their fellow grads, as well as themselves.

Next, the class awards, scholarships and bursaries were handed out.

Dustin Engelhart and Boone Park both received cheques from fire chief Wayne Walch of the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department to help further their education. Both are junior firefighters with the local department.

Following the awarding of the numerous scholarships and bursaries, the grads and their invited guests proceeded to the school gymnasium where the diplomas were handed out and they all enjoyed a barbecue dinner.

Congratulations to Dallas Ball, Nolan Buis, Dustin Engelhart, Jane Hainstock, Daniel (Boone) Park and Christopher Perlitz.
