Parkside Art Gallery is currently ramping up to host the Central Interior Regional Arts Council (CIRAC) Arts Fest 2011 & Arts Practise Symposium.

It runs from April 15 to May 14, and until April 1, they will be accepting applications from emerging artists who are interested in displaying their work at the show.

Parkside president Patsy Granberg explains anyone can participate in the show with his or her paintings, drawings, 2D and 3D pieces.

They just need to fill out an application, which is available at Parkside, or online at www.cirac.ca. Under the Resources tab, click on "Documents and Links," then click on "ArtsFest 2011 Call for Entry."

Everyone who participates in the show will have their work juried by judges, portrait artist Judith Copland, and local photographer Chris Harris.

The pair will do a group critique with the artists on April 16 and also offer two workshops and a discussion session.

From the submissions, the judges will choose 10 pieces, which will tour through different communities in the region for six months.

This will be the first time Parkside hosted the CIRAC show, and Granberg is urging local artists to take advantage of the rare opportunity.

"We hope that there will be lots of local participation. This show is intended for emerging artists."

The show opening is on April 15 at 7 p.m. and special guests will include Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett, CRD Area L Director Bruce Rattray, 100 Mile House Mayor Mitch Campsall and Canim Lake Band Chief Mike Archie. Classical guitarist Isaac Hensey will also be there to entertain.
