The Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre (CFEC) Society celebrated 28 years of serving South Cariboo families at its annual general meeting on June 14.

Several awards were given out by society chair Rita Giesbrecht and executive director Lisa De Paoli to donors, volunteers and staff for their committed service.

It was a beautiful event. It was great to recognize the board and staff for their accomplishments and talk about our future plans,” says De Paoli.

Results from the annual external financial audit for 2015/16 by Deloitte LLP were released following a review by De Paoli, Giesbrecht and former co-chair Sheila Hart.

Some of the highlights included achieving a four-year Council on Accreditation Award, the addition of the Child Counselling and Play Therapy Program and the collaboration results with the Big Brothers Big Sisters South Cariboo satellite office.

The CFEC has already begun to strive for further goals.

One of the most prestigious goals in mind is achieving an IMAGINE Canada Accreditation.

It is part of the Standards Program awards accreditation, which is for Canadian charities or non-profits that demonstrate excellence in board governance, financial accountability and transparency, fundraising, staff management and volunteer involvement.

Both the CFEC and Canadian Mental Health Association-South Cariboo Branch have applied for this accreditation,” says De Paoli.

There are only 25 organizations in British Columbia with that status. If we were able to achieve it, it would show just how committed we are to this community.”

Other plans in the work for 2016/17 include adding the Connect Parenting Program to its service continuum and developing new strategic plans from 2017/18 to 2019/20.
