The organizers of this year’s Bridge Lake Fair at Interlakes Hall on Aug. 21 were thrilled to have the Cariboo Agility Team, headed by president Roxanne Ziefflie, as a scheduled performer.

Spectators were most impressed with the various dogs’ demonstrated agility, and showed their appreciation with thunderous applause.

One of the team members was Bridge Lake’s Hailey Blattler, whose red heeler, Scout, is just learning the business. Hailey explained that “he [Scout] didn’t have enough to do, so we joined the team.”

Youth news

By all accounts the Kids’ Space Vacation, Aug. 2-5, was a resounding success with 43 youths, including 22 teens in attendance.

Sponsored by the Cariboo Presbyterian Church, the regular programs for “kids” and for “teens” recommence in September. The groups generally meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Fridays, at Interlakes Hall, and all meetings include supper.

Kids Space, for children aged five and up, will meet Sept. 16, 30, Oct. 14, 31, Nov. 11, 25 and Dec. 9.

For their first meeting, the children will meet at Staley Lake Bison Ranch on Highway 24 just west of Sheridan Complex. For their Halloween meeting, they will have a spooky stall at Interlakes Rodeo Grounds.

Teen Space, for youths in Grade 7 and up, will meet Sept. 24-25, Oct. 21 and Nov. 18. Their first meeting involves a campout at the Double T Ranch.

These teens also commit to community service, and kindly spent Aug. 29 painting the new picket fence at Lakeview Cemetery.

An offshoot of Teen Space is the Firefighters’ Club, whose members must also be Grade 7 and up. This group is co-sponsored and trained by Interlakes Volunteer Fire Department (IVFD) with the Cariboo Regional District’s approval, and will meet Sept. 9, Oct. 7, Nov. 4 and Dec. 2.

The combined groups will offer a Christmas pageant, potluck supper and carol singing at Interlakes Hall on Dec. 21, so mark your calendars accordingly.

Questions regarding any of the groups can be directed to Elaine Adams at 250-593-2303.

IVFD elections

At its Aug. 25 annual general meeting, Interlakes Volunteer Fire Department re-elected its entire board, including president Doug Townsend (250-593-4665), vice-president Bill Adams, secretary Dorothy Townsend, treasurer Heidi Middleton and directors Phyllis Greenlees, Regina Heine, Doreen Wishart, David Rickenbacher and Klaus Vogel.

It was noted construction on the addition to West Fire Hall, and an entirely new Central Fire Hall is expected to commence shortly.

Raffle winners: Log Cabin Quilters quilt, Kathe Atkinson of Surrey; hand-tied flies from Doug Townsend, Pam Canty of Bridge Lake; two nights at Greenlees on the Lake, Jim McGill of Bridge Lake; first-Aid kit from Mediserve, Susan Neumann of Vancouver; and Interlakes Market $50 gift certificates went to Helen Zander of Bridge Lake, Bill Jollymore of Lac des Roches, and Daryl Llewellyn of Lac des Roches.

IVFD is most grateful for the public’s support.

Golf tourney

IVFD’s annual golf tournament is at the Middleton residence opposite Bridge Lake School on Sept. 10.

Tee off time is 1 p.m. Admission costs $5 and everyone is welcome.

The day will conclude with a potluck supper, and anyone wishing to help is asked to call Heidi Middleton at 250-593-4032.

Celebrations

Nine big balloons winged their way to Dirk Verheul on Aug. 27.

Congratulations to Pam and Doug Canty on their 42nd wedding anniversary on Sept. 12.
