On Nov. 24, Ralph Fossum will be the guest speaker for the Caregivers Support Group meeting at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church in 100 Mile House, starting at 10:30 a.m.

Fossum recently attended a seminar in Vancouver regarding the seniors housing problem and will share some of this information. He is a seniors advocate for 100 Mile House and will be available to answer questions people may have on other aspects.

The Caregivers Support Group (CSG) meets at St. Timothy’s Church on the second and fourth Thursdays of every month. The church is the log building on the corner of Horse Lake and Blackstock roads.

The meetings are held upstairs and there is wheelchair access if needed. It is an informal gathering for all ages of people who are looking after someone.

Caregiving is stressful at times and it is beneficial to have somewhere to talk about some of the stresses and how to cope with them.

People share their thoughts and information with each other, but no one is pressured into speaking if they would rather just listen. What is said in these get-togethers stays within the group.

The CSG meetings are from 10:30 a.m. to noon, but no one has to be there the whole time and can arrive and leave whenever it works for them.

The CSG provides a place where people caring for a family member/person with a disability can meet and share concerns and experiences.

Caregivers will find sympathetic listeners who can understand the responsibilities and stresses they face.

The sessions are on a drop-in basis, so people don’t need to feel they must come every time. Coffee and tea is available along with goodies.
