Camping season is soon upon us and there are 30 little girls and young ladies anxious to explore the great outdoors. The Guiding program incorporates camping for all branches, providing structured opportunities for girls to develop skills, learn about all aspects of the outdoors and build friendships within a safe and fun environment.

Because 100 Mile Guiding was not active for approximately five years, their units need to rebuild their camping equipment. They have recouped some equipment, which was stored by the district, but need to build their inventory to meet the needs of the number of girls wishing to participate in the camping experience. To this end, they are asking community members if they would consider donating any camping gear they do not have a need of at this time.

Camping gear that they are in particular need of is: propane camp stoves; backpacking stoves; two-man and larger light tents with flies that extend to ground level; portable shelters; tarps and ground sheets; camp coolers; medium to large size plastic totes with lids; folding camp tables; folding camp kitchens; rope and twine for lashing.

They ask that all gear be in good repair and that anyone who would wish to donate contact Bernice Enns, Guide Guider, at 250-706-9118 or hbenns@shaw.ca

They extend their appreciation for the support the 100 Mile area citizens have so generously offered the girls by sharing their expertise to help meet program requirements, for example, by supporting their bi-annual cookie sales which provide funds for program activities and supplies, as well as Guiding events and camping fees.
