Camp enjoyed
Eighteen Grade 4-7 Bridge Lake Elementary School (BLES) students spent an awesome two days at the Educo camp on May 17-18.
Teacher and chaperone Carney Myers explains the exercise as a kind of team building, self-esteem, self-confidence, push-yourself-beyond-your limits type of thing, and says all of the children did very well.
The high ropes required climbing to a Burma bridge at about 10 feet, then climbing up the bridge to heights of 45 or 60 feet, then coming down the zip-line, which is the only way down.
"The staff there was just amazing with the kids. They had lots of patience and were coaxing and encouraging without pressuring them,” Myers says.
“And then there were group games, when they weren't on the high ropes or rock climbing wall. They kept them steadily busy and I really didn't have to be there at all."
Showcase artist
Bridge Lake librarian Brenda Tillyer welcomes Willi Gallant to the library's Community Showcase for the month of June.
Willi is well-known, as she's had a shop in 100 Mile for some three years, and also sells her beautiful hand-painted glassware at local Farmer's Markets.
Born in Holland, Willi moved to Canada when she was six years old and to 100 Mile when she was nine.
"Glass is very challenging to paint because it's a slippery surface. My paint is put on, then left for a certain time then baked."
Willi works mostly on vases, mugs and wine glasses, but she also sells cards and jewelry. She will also do personalized work for those who ask, and she especially enjoys painting nature, wildlife and flowers.
