Some 200 guests enjoyed a full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, courtesy of Bridge Lake Community School Society on Dec. 15.

This was followed by Bridge Lake Elementary School's band performance and then all the children, including the wee ones in playschool and pre-school, performed various skits and sang carols in their production of "Cinderella’s Christmas."

Prince Charming was played by Sergei DeVries, with the role of Cinderella being covered by four charming ladies: Logan Law, Vannet Simon, Hannah Valihora and Jordana Weeks.

Morgan Briand and Piper Loft made wonderful Ugly Stepsisters, while Giorgia Lanzoni was the Wicked Stepmother.

It really is amazing how well children take to the stage and fulfill their roles with gusto.

The evening concluded with a visit from Santa and, amongst other thank-yous to the school's many volunteers, deep gratitude was expressed to Lorraine Faessler who provided a gift for every child connected to the schools, from babies upwards. She is a true Mrs. Claus.

Celebrations

Congratulations to Joice and Danny Jenewein on their 51st wedding anniversary, Dec. 30.

Birthday bubbly goes to Wendy Kunzli and Roger Schmidt, both of whom celebrate on New Year's Eve; and especially to Ken Marsh on his golden Jan. 2 birthday.

Wise words

Here's a thought-provoking maximum for the new year. As far as I know, it comes from the pen of the Mighty Anonymous.

"You want to see the vista but you dare not climb the tower.

You long to pick the apple but you won’t in case it's sour.

Be brave, for trusting the Lord will always give you power.

The folk who reach the rainbow are the ones who brave the shower."
