Veteran South Cariboo Idol contestant Renee Wilkinson belts out a song as she rounded out the 2011 South Cariboo Idol entertainment at the Iron Horse Pub on Aug. 6.

Summer sure seems to be slipping by quickly, and with that comes the countdown to the start of school and the end to the lazy days of summer.

On Sept. 7, students will be arriving at Horse Lake Elementary School for a half-day session before hitting full gear and full days.

Get out and enjoy your last couple of weeks off; school is coming quick.

Smoldering fire

Thanks to the awareness of neighbour Chris Boffa, damage was limited at the Lone Butte Fish and Wildlife rifle range in the late afternoon of Aug.13.

He alerted both the Lone Butte Volunteer Fire Department and 100 Mile House Fire Rescue, which quickly to put out the fire that started in a sawdust berm.

Careless smoking may have been the cause even though there is no smoking allowed and there was no one signed in to the range at the time of the fire.

Thanks also go out to Greg and Karen Pellerin who arrived quickly to assist Boffa in the initial attack. Please see the LBFW website www.lonebuttefishandwildlife.com for the latest updates or contact George Ostoforoff at 250-395-4027.

Idols belt it out

The 2011 South Cariboo Idols entertained a full house at the Iron Horse Pub on Aug.6.

The crowd loved having them and both the judges and the onlookers were busy critiquing the performances with everyone looking forward seeing who will take home the honour of being this year's Cariboo Idol.

Say goodbye

You only have a couple of days left to say goodbye to the staff at Lone Butte Gardens as their last day will be Aug. 27.

There will indeed be a hole in the community with the nursery being closed and we will miss the Wiens' family business in our community. We wish them all the best to them and their staff in their future endeavours.

Community association

Another successful flea market/craft bazaar was held at the Lone Butte Community Hall on Aug. 20, and the next one is scheduled for Sept. 24.

Other business on the table is the continued maintenance and hall repairs that are needed.

Again, if any local contractors would like to put in a bid and see what needs to be done, please contact the writer at 250-644-1555.

Tower Facelift

The Historical Association has the paint ready to go and is looking for volunteers willing to help give the water tower a fall facelift.

Please contact Al Jones at 250-395-5193 if you are able to lend a hand to get it done before the snow flies. The tentative dates for painting the tower are Sept. 10-11.

The association's annual general meeting is on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. at Lone Butte Community Hall.
