Things are warming up around Canim Lake, so it was time to grab the camera and head out on a bit of an adventure.

Driving out towards Canim Lake Estates on the North Shore I discovered a little gallery and the artists/artisans that call it home.

Ted and denise Swift have been Canim residents since about 1980, building their home, shop and gardens since then. Now retired after long careers in the Cariboo they are pursuing their passions, creating both practical and enchanting objects.

denise swift has been a potter and carver full time since 2008. Her work can be seen at the Parkside Art Gallery in 100 Mile House as well as her home gallery. She creates Raku pottery in several outdoor kilns using glazes and techniques she has perfected for her unique signature pieces.

As well, denise carves wooden sculptures and faces that are captivating in their simplicity. An accomplished painter as well, the gallery is truly a one woman show in its own right.

Both denise and Ted are involved with the Big Horn Archery Club and both took home honours March 18 and 19th at the Indoor Archery Competition held in 100 Mile House. Ted placing first in the Primitive Bow Master's Class, and denise placing first in Women's Master's Long Bow.

Ted has a workshop attached to the gallery where he creates handcrafted bows that are as beautiful as they are accurate. Ted's workshop is a must see for anyone looking to add a bow to their collection.

Visits to the gallery can be arranged by calling 250-397-2632 or by visiting the website at www.canlacprojects.com. Appointments are required but the warm welcome is genuine.
