Held on Sept. 10 with a great turnout of the public, as well as 51 planes dropping in, the Airport Appreciation Day at the South Cariboo Regional Airport in 108 Mile Ranch was a huge success.
One of the planes flying overhead dropped candy and the children could have their usual scramble of picking up the yummy treats.
The helicopter was busy giving rides to the public and providing many thrills.
One of the planes on display was made from a kit. Pilot Ken Jacobson purchased the kit a few years ago and still fondly remembers the day the two large boxes arrived.
The plane was completed in 2010 and the kit cost $19,000, plus taxes and any extras. The engine cost another $9,000 and took approximately 500 hours to build. The aircraft weighs about 500 pounds.

The 108 Lions had their annual yard sale on Sept. 17 at the 108 Community Hall parking lot.
Things were brisk to start with as customers hurried to get the good items before they were picked over, as well as free table being offered.

Fire departments
This year, Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 9-15. The 108 Mile Ranch Volunteer Fire Department will be involved in the Muscular Dystrophy fundraiser on Sept. 24 at the 108 Mall, the Esso gas station and the fire hall.
The firefighters advise chimney fire callouts are down, as residents appear to be more informed, but it is recommended all wood stove chimneys be cleaned before the heating season starts.
Dog poisoned
Recently, a dog in the 108 died from being poisoned after eating an item that looked like a small handmade hamburger patty.
A search was conducted and a number of these patties were discovered. Samples have been given to the RCMP and a veterinarian who send them away for analysis.
If you have any information regarding this situation, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
